A North Vancouver woman is nursing her wounds at home after being struck in a hit-andrun while crossing the street.

The incident happened just after 6 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Chesterfield Avenue and 15th Street.

The 55-year-old was crossing 15th Street when a southbound minivan collided with her while turning left onto 15th Street, according to North Vancouver RCMP.

"The van stopped momentarily but (the driver) did not get out and render assistance," said Cpl. Richard De Jong, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman.

Instead, several witnesses came to the woman's aid and called 9-1-1. Those witnesses were B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics rushed the woman to nearby Lions Gate Hospital where she was treated overnight for serious but non-life-threatening injuries and released on Sunday. Police are now on the hunt for the driver, surveillance camera footage from the neighbourhood or anyone with information about the hit-and-run.

The suspect Caravan possibly has some damage on the front left side from the collision, De Jong said.

This is the fourth time a pedestrian has been sent to hospital after being hit by a car in North Vancouver since mid October. A 13-year-old girl suffered serious head injuries when she was struck by two vehicles on West Third Street on Nov. 30. She remains in serious but stable condition with a long road to recovery, De Jong said.

From page 1able to give the basic description of the suspect vehicle - a dark coloured Dodge Caravan - but didn't get the licence plate number.

Both drivers and pedestrians have to be cautious, especially at this time of year when early sunset and rain often reduce visibility, De Jong said. Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to contact North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311.
