Almost six months after he disappeared on a day trip to the North Shore, a 20-year-old hiker from Vancouver has been found dead in Lynn Headwaters Regional Park.

Safari Mbaruk was reported missing Nov. 18 after he left his home equipped for a hike and failed to return that evening. It was unlike Mbaruk to be out of contact for so long, leading family to believe he had run into trouble while hiking one of his favoured trails near Lynn Creek or Deep Cove.

The disappearance touched off an intensive two-day search, which ultimately turned up no clues as the mans whereabouts.

On May 2, investigators worst fears were realized when hikers came across Mbaruks body in a small creek near Norvan Falls, about seven kilometres north of the parks entrance. After a complex recovery operation, rescue crews pulled the remains from the heavily treed area and turned them over to the B.C. Coroners Service, who confirmed Mbaruks identity from dental records.

A preliminary investigation suggests the man died in a hiking accident, according to the service. Foul play is not suspected.

No further details were given.
