POLICE are attempting to identify a woman whose body was found floating in North Vancouver's Lynn Canyon Wednesday evening.
A hiker made the grim discovery at about 9 p.m. near the park's suspension bridge.
By the time police and rescue crew reached the scene, the corpse had drifted about half a kilometre downstream to a point near Twin Falls, pushed by unseasonably high waters.
It took about an hour to recover it from the creek.
Cpl. Richard De Jong, a spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP, would not comment on the cause of death or the length of time the woman might have been in the waterway, but he noted the coroner would likely have to consult with dental records to identify her.
It's not clear yet whether or not the coroner will perform an autopsy, De Jong added.
Investigators do not suspect foul play.
According to rescuers, the body was likely trapped underwater near the bridge, and floated to the surface after the water level dropped in recent days.
It's possible there was a connection to the disappearance of a 38-yearold woman whose car was found abandoned near the suspension bridge last month, they said.
That search operation was called off after volunteers found no sign of her in the creek or surrounding park.
Investigators have not confirmed that possibility.
