LOOKING to spend some quality dad-and-kid time this weekend?

There are plenty of options around the Lower Mainland for family fun; here are a couple of our favourites.

It's the 13th Annual B.C.'s Family Fishing Weekend all around the province.

On the North Shore, Rice Lake is the place to bait and wait, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 17.

The fishing event is free, and offers an opportunity to learn how to fish and to gain lots of useful educational information in a fun and supervised environment. Knowledgeable volunteers will be present to show you the tricks of the trade and help you on your way to catching your first lunker!

For this weekend only, the B.C. Government offers a complimentary three-day basic freshwater licence valid June 15, 16 and 17, 2012. Find out more at www.bcfamilyfishing.com.

For families looking for ideas of things to do for Father's Day, visit the Britannia Mine Museum for Family Triple Blast Day on Sunday, June 17th at 10 a.m.

A trip to the Britannia Mine Museum is also a worthy outing this Father's Day.

According to a release, there will be fun activities throughout the day for kids of all ages including gold panning races to see who has the gold fever. A blacksmith on site will provide a show and tell of how metal can be made into something cool. Also, face painters will be on hand to decorate faces and turn anyone into a miner for the day.

Dads, grandfathers and everyone in the family can enjoy guided tours of the underground mine train and learn what it was like working as a miner at Britannia Mine. Tours will also include a visit to the historic 20-storey Mill building where stone and minerals rocked and rolled down the gravity-fed concentrator mill and ore was processed.

Enjoy the day with some coffee and refreshments as you stroll down the boardwalk and visit the A-Z building, the Beaty-Lundin Visitor Centre and of course the covered gold panning area.

Family Triple Blast Day at the Britannia Mine Museum is free for members or with regular admissions. Visit www. britanniaminemuseum.ca or call 1800896-4044 for more information.
