MOTORISTS disembarking from ferries at Horseshoe Bay on the morning Saturday, Sept. 8 should expect delays and detours as a cycling race winds its way along the Sea to Sky Highway.
To accommodate as many as 7,000 cyclists riding in the third annual RBC GranFondo Whistler, the eastbound lanes of Upper Levels Highway 1 will be closed to traffic from Horseshoe Bay to Taylor Way Blvd from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Traffic will be redirected through West Vancouver along Marine Drive.
The detour will affect drivers coming off the following ferry sailings: the 6: 20 a.m. ferry from Nanaimo, the 6: 20 a.m. ferry from Langdale and the 5: 30 a.m., 6: 30 a.m. and 7: 30 a.m. sailings from Bowen Island.
Eastbound trucks that are three axles or more will be lined up on Highway 1 at Exit 0, and will have to wait until 9 a.m. to move.
