Construction of the new, $700-million North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant (formerly the Lions Gate plant) is set to begin in late 2017.
Residents interested in voicing their concerns about the project have until June 8 to fill out this survey
The plant is set to be built in the District of North Vancouver at West First Street between Pemberton and Philip avenues, approximately two kilometres east of the old plant.
The 56-year-old plant is set to be decommissioned and the lands are scheduled to be returned to the Squamish Nation once the new plant is active. The new plant is scheduled to be operations by New Year’s Eve 2020.
The new plant is designed to use ultraviolet light and a chemical compound similar to household bleach to take 90 per cent of dissolved substances out of the water. The current treatment removes between 30 and 40 per cent of dissolved material.
