ONE man is dead after being impaled on a section of fence that came through the windshield of a delivery truck in a freak accident this afternoon in West Vancouver.

The fatal accident happened just before noon in the 4800-block of Water Lane, near to Lighthouse Park.

Two men were in a one-ton commercial delivery truck carrying granite counter tops when the driver lost control of the truck, crashing through a fence.

One section of the fence smashed through the trucks window, impaling the passenger, said Staff Sgt. Jeff Young, spokesman for the West Vancouver Police Department. The man was rushed to Lions Gate Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not yet released his name, pending notification of his family.

The driver of the truck wasnt injured in the crash, but was also taken to hospital after showing signs of distress.

Young said police are investigating to determine the cause of the accident.

Preliminary indications are there may have been a mechanical failure that caused the truck to lose its brakes, said Young.
