West Vancouver resident and retired B.C. Court of Appeal Justice Thomas R. Braidwood, along with local search and rescue team North Shore Rescue, are among four award honourees being recognized by the Justice Institute of BC.
Each year the JIBC Foundation Awards for Justice and Public Safety Gala acknowledges individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions in the areas of justice, public safety and community leadership. The 12th annual awards gala will be held Nov. 28 at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver.
Braidwood will receive the Anthony P. Pantages, QC Medal for his outstanding contribution to the field of justice.
"Thomas's distinguished legal career spans more than four decades. His passion and commitment to seeking justice has had a profound impact not only on the lives of individual British Columbians but the province as a whole," said John Chesman, JIBC Foundation chair, in a press release.
North Shore Rescue, represented by team leader Tim Jones, will be awarded the Dr. Joseph H. Cohen Award for outstanding contribution to the field of public safety.
The other 2013 award honourees are Eric J. Harris, QC, who will receive the JIBC Foundation Community Leadership Award, and Master Cpl. Brent Nolasco, search and rescue technician, Canadian Armed Forces, who will receive the Heroes and Rescue Award.
