SEVERAL pedestrians in Dundarave had a close call Wednesday afternoon after a 91-year-old man floored his vehicle into reverse, smashing a sidewalk display table and pushing it through the window of a stationary store on Marine Drive.
Several people narrowly missed being hit as the Chrysler Sebring reversed on to the sidewalk shortly before 1: 30 p.m. The accident pushed a display table part way through the window of Dundarave Stationary.
Three pedestrians who were struck by the car as it backed up were examined for minor injuries but no one was seriously hurt.
Staff Sgt. Jeff Young of the West Vancouver Police Department said it's lucky the accident wasn't worse. Young said the accident is still under investigation, but it appears the driver hit the gas instead of the brake as he was backing up while parallel parking.
Young said if the police investigation shows the driver's age was a factor in the accident, they will recommend that he undergo a driving test.
