A Coquitlam boater has lost his truck and his driver's licence after making dockside threats in North Vancouver and then fleeing to Port Moody, according to police.
The suspect was one of four "intoxicated individuals" who were allegedly threatening another boater tied up at the government dock in Deep Cover around 7 p.m.
When the victim called police, the suspects tried to take to the seas, but collided with two other boats on their way out of the marina, according to police.
North Vancouver RCMP's police boat, which was on patrol nearby, responded minutes later. Officers spotted their suspect at the Rocky Point boat launch in Port Moody
"We expanded our patrol area into Port Moody," said Cpl. Richard De Jong, a spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP. "That's where we learned that the same person who was driving the boat, was now backing his truck up to the water (to pull his boat out)."
The 34-year-old driver failed a breathalyzer test, and North Vancouver officers pulled his licence for 90 days and impounded his truck for 30.
"Drinking and driving, whether on land or water is illegal and punishable under the Criminal Code and Provincial Acts," said De Jong. "It is well known that drinking and taking to the water can lead to dangerous situations. Operators are responsible for the safety of their guests and should consider other users of the waterway."
