DISTRICT of North Vancouver council has asked staff to rescind plans to narrow Keith Road westbound between Brooksbank Avenue and the city boundary to one lane before the painted lines were even finished.
Council previously approved the measure as part of a larger package of changes, which would have seen a bike lane installed on the steep incline and the number of lanes reduced to one in each direction. The changes were planned as part of a repaving of the street.
The city had also supported the change to address speeding concerns and because Keith Road westbound narrows to one lane at the top of the hill anyway.
But most councillors argued that the hill needed two lanes to allow slow-moving vehicles to be passed by other motorists. Staff proposed a pilot scheme Oct. 24 to put in the bike lane on a temporary basis, but that didn't gather enough support around council.
