A young North Vancouver dancer has been recognized for her artistic ballet talent at an international level.

Thirteen-year-old Highlands elementary student Martina Prefontaine was in Seattle, Wash. last month for the Youth America Grand Prix semi-finals, where she was awarded the Grand-Prix - the highest award for a dancer in her category.

This achievement comes after a string of other dance accomplishments, including representing Canada at the YAGP International Finals in New York last year, where she won gold for Canada in her age category.

Prefontaine received a full scholarship last summer to attend the School of American Ballet in New York, and has been invited back to the SAB on another scholarship this summer.
