CITY of North Vancouver council has given the OK for a new commercial/residential development on Lonsdale Avenue at 18th Street.
The building will replace an approximately 100-year-old retail/residential three-storey building that was on the site at 1835 Lonsdale Ave.
Council had to approve several variances May 28 for the development to go forward, including allowing the building to rise an extra 13 feet above the current height limit and reduce the number of required parking spaces from 17 to 15.
Only one citizen spoke against the variance, arguing that the height increase would impede her view.
Council members spoke highly of the building's design, which features one floor of retail space, two floors of commercial space and three residential units on the top floor, meant to partially replace the four units in the current building.
