A North Vancouver man who was wanted on two outstanding warrants is behind bars thanks to an RCMP officers unusual memory for mountain bikes.

The officer was working undercover on an unrelated case in downtown Vancouver June 29 when he spotted the suspect on a $3,500 Rocky Mountain-model mountain bike. The officer recognized the pricey ride from a photo that had been circulated around the detachment, according to police.

A short investigation confirmed his suspicions, and the officer arrested the man. When he ran the 25-year-olds name through the police database, the officer discovered the suspect was already wanted for two unrelated crimes in North Vancouver.

A search also turned up break-in instruments and a small amount of methamphetamine.

Christopher Ernest Oakley has been charged with possession of break-in instruments, possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance. Hes also facing a charge of theft dating from March.
