Booktopia: An annual children's literature festival which promotes literacy, celebrates language arts and cultivates creative thought will run from May 4 to 12 at the West Vancouver Memorial Library, 1950 Marine Dr. Opening reception: Friday, May 4, 4 p.m. Winners of the Member of Parliament Writing Award will be announced. Clothing Sale: A fundraiser for a group of girls that will travel to Rwanda on a Youth Unlimited mission trip will take place Friday, May 4, 1: 30-4 p.m. at North Shore Alliance Church, 201 East 23rd St., North Vancouver. There will be clothing suitable for pre-teens and teens. Shirts, pants, shorts, sweaters and skirts will be for sale for $5 and jackets and coats for $10, with unsold clothing to be donated to Salvation Army.

Big Bang Pool Party: The Aspires Society, an organization that supports youth with Asperger syndrome, will host a pool party for youth ages 10 and older Saturday, May 5, 8-10 p.m. at Karen Magnussen Community Centre, 2300 Kirkstone Rd., North Vancouver. Cityfest: A Youth Week event organized by local civic organizations and businesses to promote youth involvement in society Saturday, May 5, noon to 4 p.m. in the parking lot at Centennial Theatre, 2300 Lonsdale Ave., North Vancouver. The festival will feature a skateboarding competition, dance and drama performances, live bands, art displays and a free barbecue for early birds.

Ridgeway elementary's 100th Anniversary: Past students, teachers, administrators support staff, parents and neighbours are invited to celebrate Saturday, May 5, 11: 30-3: 30 p.m. at 420 East Eighth St., North Vancouver. There will be a heritage display, refreshments, a cake cutting at 2: 30 p.m. and a mini show and shine of vintage and collectible cars. The spring fair will also be held on the same day.
