NOBODY wears blue like a blonde, brunettes have the most versatile hair shade, and redheads can rock the jewel tone eye.

The John Frieda Colour Council shared these and other beauty tips during the Vancouver stop of its cross-Canada promotional tour.

John Frieda's Canadian creative consultant, Montreal hair stylist Alain Larivée, teamed up with international fashion stylist Zeina Esmail and Toronto-based makeup artist Anna Nenoiu to promote the brand's new portfolio of products to care for colour-treated hair and to share colour-related fashion and beauty tips and trends for redheads, brunettes and blondes. Here is their advice:

Brilliant brunette

Wear gemstone colours for clothing; a runway favourite for spring, jewel tones intensify and highlight brunette hair, says Esmail. In makeup, brunettes can wear a bright lip. Nenoiu likes Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in Always Red. "It's a high coverage lip stain with intense colour that feels soft and comfortable on the lip," and it comes in a variety of bright colours from ruby red to berry, coral and hot fuchsia, she says.

Sheer blonde

Blondes can manage a strong eye and eyeliner, says Nenoiu, who likes Giorgio Armani Maestro liquid eyeliner. This liquid liner delivers carbon black pigment, staying power and versatility to create thin to thick lines. Diorshow mascara's XXL brush builds volume and boosts each individual eyelash, she adds. In fashion, all-white made a statement on the runways in New York, Milan and Paris, and blondes wear it well, says Esmail.

RADIANT RED

Wear natural hues like beige, brown, burnt orange, taupe and olive green to complement red's warm tones, suggests Esmail. Wear golden and brown when it comes to watches and framed sunglasses. In beauty, work with a dewy complexion and try a dramatic, yet playful eye, suggests Nenoiu, who likes Giorgio Armani's Eyes to Kill eye shadow quad palette. It's available in sets of crease-proof jewel tone colours to recreate the bright eye makeup inspired by the spring-summer 2013 runways.

Larivée recommends John Frieda's new Colour Protection shampoos and conditioners for colour-treated hair, which he says help to keep first-day colour and texture by preserving and extending colour-treated hair for up to 10 weeks. They're formulated specifically for brunette, blond and red hair.

The products are $13 for 250 millilitres and sold at mass retailers.
