The City of North Vancouver has turned off its parking meters on the streets outside Lions Gate Hospital.

City staff disabled the meters on Wednesday, according to city spokeswoman Stephanie Smiley.

It follows Ministry of Health allowing free parking for staff, patients and visitors at all of its hospitals in the province. The City of Vancouver has also stopped enforcement at its pay parking stations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The only other paid street parking in the city is in The Shipyards on Wallace Mews. Regular parking rates still apply there, however Smiley said the city encourages people to use phone-based apps to process their payment, rather than touching the machines.
