Six North Shore youth hockey players selected in WHL Prospects Draft

More promising North Shore hockey talent is rising through the ranks.

On May 8, six skaters from North and West Vancouver were selected in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, held in Calgary, Alta.

In total, 227 players born in 2010 were selected by WHL member clubs, including 120 forwards, 81 defencemen and 26 goalies. Most are from provinces and territories in Western Canada, with 24 U.S. players.

In round two the Saskatoon Blades selected Noah Fowler, a centre from North Van, as the No. 24 overall pick. The five-foot-11, 150-pound 15-year-old got his start in youth hockey with the North Shore Winter Club. In his 2024-25 season with St. George’s School U15 Prep, Fowler recorded 29 goals and 33 assists for 62 total points in 36 games.

In the fourth round, 72nd overall, the Swift Current Broncos selected Quinn Pickering of West Van. The former NW Hawks defenceman had a breakout ’24-25 season with St. George’s U15 Prep, racking up six goals and 32 assists for 38 total points in 36 games.

Also in round four (91st), the Victoria Royals selected Alexander Rode of North Van. The defenceman had three goals and 15 assists for 18 total points in 29 games with St. George’s in the ’24-25 season.

North Vancouver defenceman Sean Murphy was selected by the Spokane Chiefs in the fifth round (110th). The North Shore Winter Club alum recorded three goals and 24 assists for 27 total points in his ’24-25 season with the North Shore Warriors U15 Prep team.

The Vancouver Giants organization picked up North Van skater Ethan Mah in round eight (172nd). Mah also played for the North Shore Winter Club. He had five goals and 21 assists for 26 total points in the ’24-25 season with the North Shore Warriors U15 Prep team.

And in the 10th round (213th overall), the Wenatchee Wild selected Cole Zurowski of North Van. The forward had eight goals and 11 assists for 19 total points in the ’24-25 season with the Vancouver NW Hawks U15 AAA “A” team.
