North Vancouver city council members are joining in the pushback against the federal governments plan to strip the Fisheries Act of provisions that ban or limit activities that result in the harm or destruction of fish habitat.

In a resolution to be forwarded to the North Shores MPs and MLAs, ministers of fisheries and agriculture and the Union of B.C. Municipalities, council argues that protection of fish habitat is an important community value for North Vancouver residents and the OCP.

Coun. Craig Keating suggested the resolution at a Monday council meeting on the advice of a constituent.

The federal Conservatives are looking to amend the Fisheries act as part of their omnibus budget bill currently in parliament.
