One man is facing charges after a Deep Cove resident caught a would-be thief in the act and made a citizen’s arrest.
The incident happened around 5:30 a.m. last Wednesday. The homeowner went outside and spotted the 25-year-old suspect inside his car. The resident physically restrained the man, who is well known to police, until officers arrived.
“The citizen who managed to restrain the suspect was not injured, and his neighbours called 911 immediately,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman. “However, police do not encourage anyone to approach any suspect engaged in criminal activity.”
Christopher David Tompkins is now charged with one count of theft under $5,000, though police say he is under investigation for a number of similar crimes in the area. He is due for a bail hearing in January.
