THE public is invited to a solemn rite-of-passage for North Vancouver's war memorial cenotaph this Sunday.
The North Shore Veterans' Council Canada has updated the monument to reflect the latest war Canadian soldiers fought in, lest it go forgotten. Sunday's event rededicates the memorial to the members of the Canadian Forces it stands in recognition of.
"We've engraved 'Afghanistan 2001-2011' and we've also engraved 'Peacekeeping,'" said Ross Gulkison, NSVCC former president. "That was a major function by our Canadians since just after the Korean War."
Veterans from the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army and Royal Canadian Air Force will be present for the event.
The event takes May 26, 2 p.m. at the war memorial in Victoria Park on Keith Road, east of Lonsdale.
