ON Feb. 26, approximately 100 big-hearted snowshoe enthusiasts assembled atop Mount Seymour for Take a Hike Youth At Risk Foundation's seventh annual Moonlight Snowshoe fundraiser, bringing in more than $50,000 for at-risk youth in Vancouver.

A host of local celebrities and musical talent offered their support for the event including Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson who was in attendance, and recording artist Dan Mangan and Vancouver Canucks goaltender Cory Schneider who donated items for the silent auction. Local musicians Jordan Klassen, Luca Fogale and Honey Larochelle also performed, according to a press release.

Funds raised from the evening support the adventure-based learning component of Take a Hike, including equipment, training, and transportation related to multi-day expeditions for 44 at-risk youth in Vancouver this spring.

The foundation was established in 2000 to support Take a Hike, an alternative education program that engages at-risk youth through a combination of adventure-based learning, academics, therapy and community involvement.
