The West Vancouver Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards 2012 event was held on June 14 at the Hollyburn Country Club.

The awards ceremony recognized businesses and individuals in a variety of categories. The following is a list of the winners.

- Citizen of the Year - Mary Markwick - Young Entrepreneur of the Year - Colin Denton, General Manager of the Village Taphouse.

- Green Business of the Year - Whole Foods

- Home-based Business of the Year - Bay View at Green Gables B&B, Gwen and Jim MacLean-Cruickshank

- Business of the Year - Pacific Arbour Retirement Communities

Marketing Excellence

North Shore Credit Union received top honours at the Marketing Association for Credit Union's annual Achievement in Marketing Excellence Awards announced June 5 at a gala in Ontario. A press release noted North Shore Credit Union received four awards in recognition of its creative and effective mortgage campaign, direct mail campaign, annual report and West Broadway branch grand opening event.

Broker Awards

North Shore mortgage broker Karen Gibbard and brokerage firm Gibbard Hoffart Financial Group recently won Reader's Choice Awards from the Canadian Real Estate Wealth magazine for Mortgage Broker of the Year and Mortgage Brokerage Company of the Year.

Architectural Excellence

In May, North Vancouver's Office of McFarlane Biggar Architects and Designers was awarded a 2012 Governor General's Medal in Architecture for its project College of New Caledonia Technical Trades Centre in Quesnel. The lead architect was Steve McFarlane (formerly of McFarlane Green Biggar Architecture and Design). The Governor General's Medals in Architecture recognize outstanding achievement in recently built projects by Canadian architects. The awards are administered jointly between the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the Canada Council for the Arts.

New Notary Directors

The Society of Notaries Public of B.C. announced in February the appointment of four new directors to its board. Among the four new appointees is Kate Manvell of West Vancouver. The society represents more than 320 notary professionals in the province.
