For one Bowen Island family, that lottery ticket traditionally left by Santa in their stocking made for a memorable Christmas Day after it turned into a $675,000 winner.
Christine Radley said she scratched the Set for Life ticket at the kitchen table on Christmas Day.
At first, the wife and mother of two said she was scared to believe her good luck. "It just felt surreal," she said in a release.
Radley and her husband Ian checked the ticket carefully several times before their good fortune sunk in.
The Radleys opted to take the lump sum payment of $675,000 and plan to use it to pay off their mortgage as well as taking a vacation.
"We've never had a family vacation together and the first thing out of our daughter's mouth was 'Can we go on a vacation now?'" said Radley. "She wants to go to Hawaii."
For now, neither of the couple, who are both in their 40s, plans to quit their jobs.
The family bought the winning ticket at the General Store on Bowen Island just a few days before Christmas.
The instant scratch and win game offers players the chance to win a top prize of $1,000 a week for 25 years - or a lump sum payment.
