A 50-year-old Surrey man has pled guilty to manslaughter in the death of his 40-year-old girlfriend, Jennifer Ferguson, whose body was found wrapped in plastic and dumped near a North Vancouver park on Jan. 22 last year.
Harvey Bracken entered the guilty plea on Wednesday, partway through a trial before Justice Gregory Fitch in B.C. Supreme Court.
Earlier in the trial, Crown counsel Kristin Bryson outlined the Crown's theory that Bracken choked Ferguson to death in the couple's Surrey apartment after they got into an argument.
The couple had been living together for three months and had been on a three-day drug binge when the argument broke out.
The Crown alleged Bracken "choked and struck" Ferguson - a small woman who weighed less than 100 pounds - resulting in her death.
Bryson said Bracken then wrapped Ferguson's body in construction-grade plastic and drove to Kirkstone Park in North Vancouver, where he dumped it - near to a construction site where Bracken was working at the time.
Ferguson's body was found on Feb. 2, 2011, by a resident who was out for a walk.
A sentencing hearing is set for June 19 in B.C. Supreme Court.
