Celebrates differences

We at Bodwell believe that future global citizens will need a larger worldview and an appreciation of interculturality.

Our extra-curricular programs offer opportunities for students to broaden individual interests and learn to be at ease working with those who are different. Kang Won, a graduate who is now working in the HR department of a multinational telecom company, was recently asked what he got most out of his years at Bodwell. "During those days I participated in as many extra-curricular activities as possible," he said. "Through participation, I learned to be open-minded and I sharpened my cross-cultural skills. Such experiences (are) now invaluable to my career, which requires me to travel the world and connect with people of different cultures, interests and perspectives."

Philosopher Aristotle first coined the term, "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." In modern times, this phrase aptly defines the concept of synergy. Last December, a group of students came up with the idea of making a lip-dub video to celebrate friendship. It rapidly morphed into a project involving nearly the entire student community. Pulling off such a production required artistic design, choreographic arrangement, technical planning, costume making, and mobilization of as many students as possible. Without help from a single adult and completed in a very short time, the project enjoyed an overwhelming success. Joey Chu, one of the leaders, reflected, "It is so amazing to find out how hundreds of us who each had a different childhood and speak a different mother language from a different place of the world could come together and work on a project as one. There is so much in each of us that complement each other."

Joey is heading for California to attend a filmmaking program with students from all over the world. She is prepared.
