Conservation officers were called to the 100-block of Mountain Highway in North Vancouver Thursday when a black bear cub climbed into a tree just metres from the Lynnwood Hotel pub to catch some Zs.

The diminutive bruin appeared in the leafless cottonwood adjacent to the train bridge over the highway late Thursday morning, prompting customers at the nearby watering hole to alert authorities and at least one local media outlet.

An officer with the B.C. Conservation Officer Service arrived soon after and, opting against tranquilization, set a live trap a short distance away. By mid-afternoon, the furry visitor remained on its perch, apparently sleeping comfortably.
