Art designs to thwart graffiti

NORTH Vancouver students are being asked to lend their craft and creativity to the nondescript grey and green utility cabinets that frequently dot intersections.

NORTH Vancouver students are being asked to lend their craft and creativity to the nondescript grey and green utility cabinets that frequently dot intersections.

The dullness of the cabinets attracts graffiti, according to a release from the North Vancouver RCMP. In an effort to prevent graffiti before the can of spray paint is shaken, students from kindergarten to Grade 12 are asked to create a work capturing the nature of the North Shore. Six selected works will be enlarged and wrapped around North Vancouver utility cabinets. The competition is open to students in public and private schools, and drawings can be done in crayon, paint, pencil, felt pen, or charcoal, so long as the artists use the template provided to North Vancouver teachers.

The pictures must reflect nature and blank space should be avoided in order to prevent tagging.

Deadline for submissions is May 15 at 4 p.m.
