A West Vancouver Blue Bus driver is recovering from a broken nose after he was reportedly attacked by a two would-be passengers Saturday.

The driver had stopped during a night run in the 4900-block of Marine Drive when the suspects, 16 and 17, tried to board. Suspecting they were drunk, the driver refused to let them on. The confrontation escalated, according to police, and the two young men allegedly beat him, leaving him with multiple injuries to the face, before fleeing the scene.

West Vancouver police arrived a short time later, tracked the pair down to an area nearby and arrested them.

Investigators are recommending charges of assault causing bodily harm. The teens, both from West Vancouver, are due to appear in court Dec. 19.

The issue of violence against transit operators came to the forefront last month when a 17-year-old from North Vancouver was handed a year's probation for participating in the vicious beating of a driver in Lynn Valley in November 2010.
