In August, the ConneXions Customized Employment program began working with an individual who was looking for employment with the right team.
He was looking for a job that had easygoing, young and patient colleagues to work with. He was also looking for a job that had a technical component to it where he could use his skills.
From the information gathered it was realized that bike shops fit the criteria as they're generally social places to work yet have a technical side to them, not to mention that our jobseeker had experience volunteering at a bike shop. ConneXions approached John Henry Bikes about possible job opportunities and was greeted warmly by the staff. They showed interest and asked if he could come in for a meeting. From the moment John Henry Bikes conducted the meeting they made him feel right at home. Dave, the Supervisor explained that the environment at John Henry Bikes promotes individuality, teamwork and attention to detail. The friendly staff also left a memorable impression as they answered questions and conducted an informative tour through the large shop floor. Once the meeting was over, John Henry Bikes offered him a position as a Bike Shop Assistant, which was quickly accepted.
Since being hired in March, John Henry Bikes has helped their new employee truly feel a part of their team. They have created a positive environment that enables staff to succeed and learn a variety of new skills. Dave states, "He's brought such a hard work ethic and positive attitude that he's a pleasure to have around the store."
