WEST Vancouver police have arrested a man they say was caught pillaging parked vehicles last week.

A keen-eyed witness spotted a suspicious man opening a parked car door on the 400block of Hadden Drive around 1 a.m. Thursday and called police.

When constables arrived on the scene, they found two vehicles had been rummaged through.

Armed with a description of the suspect and a general idea of where he was headed, WVPD teamed up with North Vancouver RCMP to cordon off the area, and called in the RCMP canine unit to sniff out the suspect.

After searching for an hour and a half, police service dog Capone found the man hiding under a bush, still in possession of stolen property from one of the vehicles as well as keys to a stolen vehicle found nearby, according to WVPD.

Thanks are owed to the alert witness, police say.

Charged is Christopher Williams, 26, of no fixed address. Williams will answer to two counts of theft under $5,000, and two counts of possession of a prohibited drug. He remains in custody as of Monday, pending his next court appearance.
