Tangerine
Filmmaker Sean Baker shot his critically acclaimed feature film Tangerine on the streets of Los Angeles using an iPhone 5S, an $8 app called Filmic Pro to steady his camera and a set of anamorphic adapter lenses from Moondog Labs. The comedy/drama, featuring transgender actresses Mya Taylor and Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Critic Manohla Dargis of the New York Times says the grainy, highly-saturated result is “gorgeous . . . . A perfectly cast, beautifully directed movie.” Tangerine makes its Vancouver debut tonight at Vancity Theatre at 8:50 p.m. with more showings on Aug. 1, 3 and 6.
