Drew Burnham's paintings feel like they are in motion. Looking at his art works you can sense the movement on the surface of the ocean, the sway of tree branches or a breeze you almost feel as it brushes against the long grass.

For the past 24 years Burnham has called the North Shore home. He has explored our local trails capturing the lush environment that grows up against our community. He has shared his love of the West Coast through fabulous creations that seem to stretch into another dimension.

Burnham documents his subject matter photographically and will later sketch out the scene then work from that for the painting.

In his field studies he looks for the "variances, rhythm characteristics, shape details big and small, and any other aspects which stand forth as important." These impressions are all part of Burnham's process before brush ever touches canvas.

The majority of his subjects featured in this first book of his work are from the West Coast, although a few Maritime and Quebec locations also appear.

Bau-Xi Gallery is hosting a book launch and signing on Sep. 24 from 2-3 p.m. where you will have the chance to meet the artist.
