I think that it is safe to say that summer has finally arrived. Fortunately for the next few months the sunshine is here and reports say it is going to be a warmer and sunnier summer than usual.

Summer craft fair The North Vancouver Community Arts Council presents its next craft fair on July 12, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at North Vancouver Civic Plaza, 14th Street and Lonsdale Avenue.

Now that the weather has warmed, we are able to plant some of our favorite herbs in pots on our kitchen window ledges or perhaps out on our decks.

Garden Plots at the Lynn Valley Lions Community Garden are available to District of North Vancouver residents. Those interested can volunteer to work at the garden or submit their name to a list. Volunteers will get priority for a plot.

Summer is often the time when we pack the kids into the car and head off on vacation. There are those who will tell you that car travel is a story about frayed nerves, hoarse voices and a firm determination to never, ever do this again.

As the summer heats up so do the flourishing colonies of ants that are found in our gardens. Unlike many other insect pests, ants are very difficult to control in an environmentally friendly way.
