It’s 2018 and time to think ahead to the new year. There is a national child day (Nov. 20) which gets little attention. I would like to see us make 2018 National Child Year. It’s trite when we say “our children are our future,” but it’s also true.

Anne Bethune calls them her Kleenex moments – those first cautious turns across the slope. Unfortunate life circumstances, along with will and determination, bring Bethune’s students to the mountain.
