Is your refrigerator running? If it is, it might be costing you too much money.

That’s the message BC Hydro wants to get across as it encourages North Shore residents to upgrade their refrigerators, washing machines, clothes dryers and other appliances to more energy-efficient models.

Retailers in North and West Vancouver are offering rebates for up to $300 on certain Energy Star appliances until Nov. 17.

A BC Hydro release states North Shore residents can expect to save “hundreds of dollars this fall on some of the most energy efficient models.”

Home appliances generally account for up to 20 per cent of a household’s electricity use, the release notes, with refrigerators in particular consuming the most electricity.

The release also states that since 2015 rebates for more energy-efficient washing machines have saved North Shore residents more than $26,150.
