It’s always wonderful to receive a beautifully wrapped gift – and many would agree that the wrapping can mean as much as the gift itself!

If you feel like going that little extra mile and presenting a gift that is wrapped in a very creative manner, here are a few ideas for you.

Cupcake and ice cream cone pompoms

Believe it or not, these little pompoms take only minutes to make and you can make your own rings at home. Craft stores sell pompom makers that are relatively inexpensive, however, if you have some extra cardboard pieces in the house you can make them from scratch as well. It’s best to follow an online tutorial for this process if you choose to go this route.

After you have made your pompoms glue them to small, paper, miniature cupcake cups with some craft glue or a glue gun. Alternatively, you can purchase some pretty, patterned craft paper at your local craft store and make a small cone with it. Glue the cone to the pompom.

Attach these to the top of a colourfully wrapped gift.

Calendar wrapping paper

This idea is so easy and very effective in its presentation. You may be able to find a free download of a large-scale calendar that you can use for this idea. Office supply stores also carry pads of large square calendars that would be perfect for this idea as well. Wrap your gift in the calendar paper that coincides with the recipient’s birthday and then circle the date and write a personalized message in the square. Add a coloured Sharpie pen with a pretty ribbon.

Kids toy

Miniature kids toy trucks and trains may be found at dollar stores and other toy distributors. Wrap the gift in plain brown paper and draw a little road or train track across the top of the gift on an angle. Glue the toy truck or train directly to the road.

Crayons to plain paper

This is a cute idea for a toddler gift. Simply wrap the recipient’s gift in plain brown or white wrapping paper. Using a glue gun, attach four or five coloured crayons, side by side on the top of the gift. Place them to the side and then write a handwritten note encouraging the recipient to use the paper to colour. Creative and environmentally friendly!
