On Oct. 26, West Vancouver honoured 10 individuals and three groups with Community Awards in the areas of arts and culture, environment, heritage, health, wellness and activity, and civic commitment.
According to the district’s website, the awards were presented by members of West Vancouver council during the council meeting that day.
Award recipients were nominated by members of the community and the winners were selected by the district’s Awards Committee.
The following is a list of the winners from the district website:
Arts and Culture
■ Liane Dickson for her work with the Ferry Building Gallery;
■ Chris Stringer for his work on the Beacon newsletter, organizing the Wander Caulfeild event and Caulfeild Community Days, and his work with older members of St. Francis in The Wood Church;
■ Urszula Sulinska for her work as president of the North Shore Polish Association and promoting Polish culture and art in West Vancouver.
Civic Commitment
■ Ambleside Tiddlycove Lions Club for their ongoing dedication to West Vancouver;
■ Carolanne Reynolds for her work as a heritage liaison, organizing the annual Royal Tea-by-the-Sea, for being the chairwoman of Heritage West Vancouver, and more;
■ Friends of the Library, a group of volunteers that work to enrich library programs, collections and services;
■ James Stout for his work as Scout Leader;
■ Robert Clark for his commitment to the Kiwanis Housing Society Board and as a volunteer for the Seniors’ Activity Centre;
■ Rotary Club of West Vancouver Sunrise for its commitment to West Vancouver and various seniors events, as well as volunteer efforts dedicated to the youth of the community.
Environment
■ Alexandra Mancini for her work as the president of the Lighthouse Park Preservation Society for the past six years.
Health, Wellness and Activity
■ Jane Baynham for her involvement in Family Court and the Youth Justice Committee during the 1990s;
■ Mike Cupit for his role in the development of RCM SAR’s Station 1 in West Vancouver.
Heritage
■ David Barker for his work with the Historical Society.
