Venilal Sisodraker emigrated to Canada from Uganda in 1970. Sisodraker was part of the South Asian diaspora living in Uganda, who were later forcibly expelled by Idi Amin.

Many, like Sisodraker, found new homes in Canada. After struggling to run a tailor shop in Vancouver, Sisodraker moved across the Inlet to North Vancouver where he took over a store on Lonsdale Avenue.

His story was captured as part of a large project that celebrated North Vancouver’s cultural diversity for the millennium, recording the stories of more than 30 other North Vancouverites of all different backgrounds.
