Born in England in 1885, George Gordon Nye arrived in North Vancouver with his family in 1898, and in 1905 set up his photography business near the foot of Lonsdale Avenue.

The business provided customers with portraits, landscapes, picture framing, copying and enlarging, amongst other things, and was open until 1910 when Nye decided to turn to carpentry.

In 1970, 12 years after his death, Nye’s photograph collection which showcases the early years of Lonsdale was donated to the MONOVA Archives. Nye is pictured here with his sister Agnes and their family dog, circa 1903.
