Grouse Mountain is inviting hiking novices and seasoned veterans alike to wrap up another summer on the Grouse Grind with its 27th annual Mountain Run.

This year’s Mountain Run, sponsored by VPG Realty Inc., challenges grinders to take on “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster, in an effort to set a new record, beat their own best Grind time, or simply complete their first hike to the peak of Vancouver,” according to a Grouse press release.

Once participants reach the peak, a post-race celebration is being hosted by the mountain that will include a recovery zone, music, awards and a barbecue.

“It’s a fun day on the mountain for people once they reach the top,” said Grouse Mountain spokeswoman Julia Grant.

Sebastian Salas set the current course record for men in 2010 with a time of 25:01.

Kristin Størmer Steira set the course record for women during the 2014 Mountain Run with a time of 30:52.

But Grant reminds people that the run is for more than just people looking to be record-breakers.

“It’s an event for everyone, all ages and abilities. Lots of people just come out to just enjoy the trail,” she said.

The Grouse Grind Mountain Run kicks off Saturday, Sept. 16 at 9:45 a.m. Go to grousemountain.com/events to register.
