The following is a selection of volunteer opportunities from various community organizations, made available through Volunteer North Shore, a service of North Shore Community Resources Society.
My Parkgate Break Volunteer Provide consistent, caring support to participating senior adults with early to moderate dementia. Training provided. Looking for warm, energetic, engaging presence with senior adults; strong verbal communication skills; willingness and ability to participate in a wide range of activities including light physical activity, preparing light meals and snacks and leading group activities.
Gallery Guide Volunteers needed for front of house operations. Talk to visitors, give tours and work the gift shop. Share your knowledge and passion for history, art and community, assist with preparation and delivery of programs at summer art camps and events when there is need.
Seniors One Stop Volunteer Mature, patient volunteers with good verbal communication skills and computer skills needed. Answer telephones, assist walk-in clients by providing appropriate information and referrals. Training provided. Knowledge about North Shore services plus another language, such as Farsi, would be beneficial.
Challenger Buddy Volunteer Help persons with cognitive or physical disabilities enjoy the sport of baseball, in a recreational, non-competitive environment. Challenger players are 19 years of age and up. The season runs early April until mid-June every Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Companioning Community Care Volunteer Volunteers offer companionship, support, connection and comfort to adults living with life limiting illness, disability and grief through weekly walks, home visits, relaxation treatments (gentle touch, healing touch, therapeutic touch or reiki), bereavement support and reception. Volunteers participate in extensive training starting Sunday, April 8. Ongoing support and educational opportunities are important to this volunteer role. Diversity welcome. A long term commitment is required.
