The Cascadia Society, a life-sharing community serving people with special needs, was one of seven B.C. organizations recognized and was given a grant of $2,500 through the program.

According to a written statement, the foundation's leadership grants program provides funding for professional development opportunities for staff and volunteers who work at smallto medium-sized registered charitable organizations in Canada.

Since its launch in 2006, the program has awarded more than $1 million to approximately 400 recipients across the country.

This year's awards total $200,000.
