From a citizen apprehending a robbery suspect to officers performing life-saving interventions, more than 27 awards were handed out by the North Vancouver RCMP last month for single acts of bravery or long-time dedication to the community.

North Vancouver RCMP Commendation Award recipients include a civilian who alerted police while witnessing a burglary in process at a local business leading to the suspect’s arrest, and four officers and a civilian who assisted in saving the life of a suicidal person.

North Shore Rescue also received an award, as a “role model of excellence for their human and community spirit as well as contributing greatly to community safety.”

Four City of North Vancouver firefighters who provided “immediate and timely” backup to the North Vancouver RCMP in helping them arrest a violent suspect were also recognized at the awards ceremony, held at the Pinnacle Hotel.

The annual awards ceremony, says North Vancouver RCMP Supt. Chris Kennedy, “provides us an opportunity to pause and reflect on the caliber of men and women who, every day, commit themselves to public safety here in the City and District of North Vancouver.”
