The following is a selection of volunteer opportunities from various community organizations, made available through Volunteer North Shore, a service of North Shore Community Resources Society.
Volunteer Reliable volunteer needed to help out with hauling equipment and setting up for a relaxation circle program on the second and fourth Thursday morning of the month in the Lynn Valley area.
One-to-One Mentor Children or youth are matched with a Big Brother or Sister in a one-to-one mentoring relationship. Activities can be varied according to interests. Generally requires a commitment of one to four hours a week for up to one year.
Crisis Line and Intake Volunteer Provide information, advocacy, emotional support and referrals on crisis and intake line to women who have experienced violence. Volunteers also co-facilitate support groups.
Technical Volunteer Skilled volunteers are needed to create customized assistive devices for people with physical disabilities. Attend monthly meetings; meet clients to discuss need; design and build an assistive device based on need; complete follow-up paperwork on completed project.
Gallery Guide Talk to visitors, give tours and work in the gift shop. Share knowledge and passion for history, art and community; assist with preparation and delivery of programs at summer art camps; assist with events when there is need.
