THANKS to a grant from Mountain Equipment Co-op, the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition has received $14,000 to develop a pocket map of North Shore cycling routes.
According to a written statement, as part of the retailer's community grants program, 58 environmental and outdoor recreation projects from across the country were awarded a total of $604,389.
The community grants program offers funding for projects under the categories of environmental conservation, advocacy, education, and outdoor recreation. Formal applications for grants are reviewed by regional and national committees made up of MEC members and staff, who select the projects that receive support. The grants are announced twice each year and more than $1.3 million was given out in 2011.
Environmental and outdoor recreation groups can apply for the next round of community grants at mec.ca/sustainability. The deadline is March 10, 2012.
