Association of United Ukrainian Canadians School of Dance instructors Gina Alpen and Stanislav Galimkhanov invite community members to weekly dance classes on now, intended to teach participants about Ukrainian dance so they’ll be ready for Malanka, the Ukrainian New Year. The association plans to mark the occasion Jan. 18, 2014 with a celebration and dance event at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, located at 805 East Pender St., in Vancouver starting at 5 p.m. $45/$10. The pre-Malanka Ukrainian social dance classes are being offered Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. (with a break over Christmas), also at the centre, until Jan. 16, 2014. Drop-in: $12. auucvancouver.ca
