The District of North Vancouver is considering critical revisions to the municipality’s policy on coach houses.
Currently, coach houses are restricted to 10,000 square-foot lots and require council approval. The new rules would slash the minimum lot size to 5,000 square feet and eliminate the need for council approval, instead requiring a building permit which would be handled by district staff.
The new policy would apply to approximately 1,570 district lots, according to a staff report.
Council approved the coach house policy in 2014 with the expectation the district would receive between five and 25 applications each year. The district has approved 14 coach houses and rejected two since the policy’s inception.
A coach house info session is set for Saturday, Sept. 29 at noon at the Lynn Valley library. Residents can offer their thoughts here.
