In 1936 Vancouver businessman Victor Golden purchased six acres of land just east of the Capilano River to use as a hunting and fishing retreat. Using diverted water from Mackay Creek, he created a large pond and had it stocked with Kamloops trout to fish.
In 1950 he erected a cabin, along with an outdoor fire area and various outbuildings. The cabin was featured as a “cover house” in BC Living in 1954, with this photo used to show off the estate. It has also appeared in several TV shows and movies, including MacGyver and Stargate SG-1, and served as the home base for the rangers in a well-known ad series for Kokanee beer.
In 1969 the land was expropriated by the District of North Vancouver and incorporated into Murdo Frazer Park.
