Instructor Greg Cormier watches as student Kam Harding slices through a 76-centimetre (30-inch) section of hemlock using a new bandsaw mill purchased for the Ace-It carpentry program at West Vancouver secondary.
Student fundraising and contributions from local builders, suppliers, and other businesses helped raise money for the new saw.
The program also purchased a forklift though they are still raising the remaining funds for it. Cormier noted in an email that the forklift allows the students to move large logs and move large timber and slabs more easily and safely.
The program was profiled in a story in the North Shore News in June 2015. Click here to read the story.
